Keep the days short and flexible

The single most important tip for travelling with children is not to over-pack the itinerary:

One or two main stops a day is plenty — a temple in the cool morning, a beach in the afternoon.
Short drives beat long ones. Base yourself near Mangalore or Udupi and do easy day trips rather than long-haul drives that end in cranky kids.
Build in downtime — a leisurely lunch, a rest at the hotel, time to just play on the sand.

Panambur — lively and well-organised, with camel and horse rides, stalls and usually lifeguards. Great fun for kids.

Temples can be magical for kids — the elephants, bells, colour and ritual — if you keep it easy:

Go early, when it's cool and queues are shorter.
Pick the more visitor-friendly temples like Udupi and Dharmasthala, where there's space and often a free meal (annadana).

A gentle green day out

For a change of pace, a short trip toward the Western Ghats gives kids waterfalls, forest and cooler air.
